Those of us who were able make it through The SuperStorm AKA Hurricane Sandy with our families, homes and livelihoods intact can give thanks for the good fortune that has been bestowed upon us. And as a way of giving thanks, we might want to reach out to others who may be in need. Ways to do so include donations of time, resources or money to:
- Recovers – a community service program that coordinates and
helps in the allocation of donated resources. - NY Blood Center – blood and plasma donations are
always needed. - NYC Service – Facebook page for NYC folks willing to
volunteer their time, passion or skills. - Food Bank NYC -NY Food Bank needs help to continue to keep feeding families in need.
Within the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut tri-state area there are federal, state and local government assistance available such as:
- Disaster assistance through the federal government
http://www.disasterassistance.gov/ or by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) - Hurricane Sandy Help and Resources to residents and businesses by the New
York State Office of Emergency Management or by calling
888-769-7243 or 518-485-1159 - Hurricane relief information and services are available to New York City residents and businesses
- The New Jersey Office of Emergency Management
- Hurricane Sandy News and Information for residents of Connecticut
